How to Install Apps on Android Safely
Official policy documentation · Last modified October 20, 2026
Installing Android apps safely is simple if you stick to a few rules.
1. Use official sources
Get your apps from the Google Play Store or the developer's official website. That is where updates and security checks happen automatically.
2. Check the listing before you install
Look at the developer name, total downloads and recent reviews. A real listing matches the app's official website and has a long, consistent history.
3. Review permissions
Before installing, check what the app asks for. A wallpaper app does not need access to your contacts or messages. If permissions look wrong for what the app does, skip it.
4. Keep apps updated
Turn on auto-updates in the Play Store. Updates patch security issues and fix bugs.
5. Avoid modified APK files
Modded or cracked APKs from random websites are one of the most common ways Android phones get malware. The few rupees or dollars saved are never worth a compromised phone.
